Data Access and Controls

Jul 3, 2009 at 5:24 AM

Hi All,

I have worked on a number of projects across winforms, wpf and asp.net webforms and one of the biggest banes of my existence is the lack of true control support for data access frameworks (i.e. orm's etc...).  Namely an effective way to bind data to controls with a minimum of fuss out of the box, additionally the ability to do effective databinding whilst maintaing a true n-tier structure and marrying all this together continues to be a significant portion of work on a project.  Doesn't matter if you are Domain Model driven or Data Model driven it tends to still come down to marrying data and data structures to controls with CRUD operations that is a pain.

Anybody want to share there insights, experience or thoughts???

Cheers,

Luke.

Have you taken a look at how we are doing databinding in the WPF client, using DTOs that implement INotifyPropertyChanged and IEditable?

What do you think of that approach?

Do you have any other ideas that you are willing to share?
